Students need the following scores to qualify for the International History
Olympiad:
60 – Varsity – Born on or before August 31, 2008 who are enrolled in a secondary
school (not university-level schooling) on November 1, 2024 (or for students in 11 th
or 12 th grade in the USA or Canada in the 2024-25 academic year)
50 – Junior Varsity – Students born between September 1, 2008 and August 31,
2010 (or for students in 9 th or 10 th grade in the USA or Canada in the 2024-25
academic year)
40 – Middle School and Intermediate – Students born between September 1, 2010
and August 31, 2014 (or for students in 5 th -8th grade in the USA or Canada in the
2024-25 academic year)
30 – Elementary – Students born between September 1, 2014 and August 31, 2016
(or for students in 3 rd or 4 th grade in the USA or Canada in the 2024-25 academic
year)
IESO
Students Qualify if they obtain the following scores or
higher:
High School – 60 (students in grades 9-12 in the USA, or,
outside the USA, students born before 1 September 2009
if taken in the 2023-24 school year, or born before 1
September 2010 if taken in the 2024-25 school year)
Middle School – 50 (students in grades 6-8 in the USA,
or, outside the USA, students born between 1 September
2009 and 31 August 2012 if taken in the 2023-24 school
year, or born between 1 September 2010 and 31 August
2013 if taken in the 2024-25 school year)
Elementary School – 40 (students in grades 3-5 in the
USA, or, outside the USA, students born between 1
September 2012 and 31 August 2015 if taken in the 2023-
24 school year, or born between 1 September 2013 and 31
August 2016 if taken in the 2024-25 school year)
