Effective for the start of the 2024-25 season, students from Canada as well as Mexico, Central America, South America and the Caribbean are now welcome to participate in some of the International Academic Competitions regional tournaments that were previously limited to students from the United States.

Students from Mexico, Central America, South America and the Caribbean may now compete in our Science, History and Geography Bees and National History Bee and Bowl regional competitions. Canadian students may participate in the Science, History and Geography Bee Regionals but not in the National History Bee and Bowl Regionals as those events overlap with the competitions offered by IAC’s Canadian Division.

For all of these regions, students in kindergarten through 8th grade (or the local equivalent thereof) wishing to participate in the Science, History and Geography Bee Regionals must pass an Online Regional Qualifying Exam in their desired subject(s) before registering. These are free of charge; either parents or teachers can create sponsor accounts to give students access to the ORQE in the subject(s) of their choice. There is no qualification requirement to participate in National History Bee and Bowl Regionals or for Grade 9-12 students to take part in the Science, History and Geography Bee Regionals.

Students from Canada, Mexico, Central America, South America or the Caribbean who finish in the top 50% of their age division at these regional Bees will qualify for their eligible national championship competitions as well as the IAC international championship in that subject area (International Environmental Science Olympiad, International History Olympiad, and International Geography Championships).

Canadian students’ Nationals qualification applies to the IAC Canadian Championships. Because IAC does not currently offer national competitions in Mexico, Central America, South America or the Caribbean, qualifying students from those areas may compete in the USA Varsity / Junior Varsity National Championships in Arlington, Virginia, or the USA Middle & Elementary School National Championships in Orlando, Florida, depending on their age.
