Northern Virginia Academic Bowl
December 6
International Academic Competitions is pleased to announce the 2025 Northern Virginia Academic Bowl, taking place at Katherine Johnson MS in Fairfax, VA on December 6, 2025! This tournament will run on our Academic Bowl Set of questions, and is open to all middle and elementary school students, regardless of what state they are from, as long as they have not yet played this set of questions in the 2025-2026 academic year.Â
To register, please fill out the form below. If you don’t receive a confirmation email within an hour, your registration may not have been processed and you should email hs-info@iacompetitions.com as soon as possible.
- Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, preregistration closes on MONDAY, December 1st at 11:59 pm EST.Â
- Teams can still register with a late fee until TUESDAY, December 2nd, after which Bowl registrations are no longer guaranteed.Â
- After that date, contact hs-info@iacompetitions.com to see if registration is still possible.Â
- No refunds will be given after December 2nd; a more complete list of our late registration fees and policies can be found here.Â

Academic Bowl
- Bowl teams will play 5 or 6 preliminary rounds, depending on field size.Â
- At some events, certain divisions may be combined, using the Small Field Rules as needed.
- After prelims, the teams will be rebracketed to play in playoffs. The number of playoff matches will vary depending on the field size; your Tournament Director will announce this on the day of the tournament.Â
- There will be plaques for the top teams, and teams can also qualify for our Middle & Elementary School National Championships in May!
Academic Bee
The National Academic Bee will not be offered at the regional level this year, though it will be one of our events offered at our Middle & Elementary School National Championships in May.
In Person Regional Qualifying Exam(IRQE)
Before the lunch break, all Academic Bowl team members will take the In-Person Regional Qualifying Exam (IRQE), a multi-subject assessment with 30 questions in each of 3 subjects, Science, History, and Geography. Students that achieve higher than 50% on any subject will qualify for our National Science/History/Geography competitions competitions where they can advance to our Middle & Elementary School National Championships in May in Orlando!
