Notes on Competing Student Event Selection

1. The following events will not be listed as selectable options since they are required events, but will be listed by day for your reference:
  • Battery (Day 2, July 5)
  • Written Exam (Day 4, July 7)
  • International Geography Bee World Championships (Day 4, July 7 and Day 8, July 11)

2. Please note that some competitions and/or field trips overlap time-wise and that it is not possible to participate in two events in the same block, so make your selections carefully. Please pay special attention to events that occur on multiple days (which is the case for most Bees), as participants who advance to the playoffs could have conflicts on the second day.

3. More information about our events can be found here, including our field trips, the Press Corps, the Symposium, and Running Combined and Swimming Combined.

4. Each of the field trips can only be taken once.
Are you participating in the Symposium?(Required)
Participation in the Symposium requires the submission of a research paper that must be sent to igc@iacompetitions.com by June 30, 2026. Please see the above Symposium link for the requirements for that paper.
Are you interested in being a member of the Press Corps?(Required)
Signing up for the Press Corps will not preclude you from taking part in any other event. Please see the above link for Press Corps requirements. If you indicate that you are interested, we'll send you an application.
Are you participating in Geopardy?(Required)
Geopardy matches will be scheduled depending on students' event choices. If there are conflicts, we will let them know as soon as possible.
If so, please list them below. We will contact you if we need any relevant documentation, such as IEP or 504 student plans.
Notes on Friends and Family Event Selection

2. You do not need to sign up for a competition that your student is in in order to spectate that event (where permitted). Please only sign up for competitions here if you wish to participate in the competition yourself.
Please note that it is permitted for Family & Friends Program members to go on field trips that their Competing Student(s) are not taking part in. It is also permitted for Family & Friends Program members to go on field trips that their Competing Student(s) are not taking part in. However, for the Maya Bay & Phi Phi Islands Trip, Competing Students MUST have an accompanying family member joining them to be able to attend (unless they are 18 years old). For the other two 4 hour-long trips, it is permitted for Competing Students to attend without an accompanying Family and Friends Program member. However, if students wish to swim during the Bamboo Rafting trip, then they must be accompanied by an adult Family and Friends Program member who assumes responsibility for them while they are swimming in the water.

3. Please note that some competitions and/or field trips overlap time-wise and that it is not possible to participate in two events in the same block, so make your selections carefully. Please pay special attention to events that occur on multiple days (which is the case for most Bees), as participants who advance to the playoffs could have conflicts on the second day.
